Move In Day - Five Months Late
We've been living hear in our Craigslist/babies-r-us furnished apartment since September. Yesterday they dropped off ALL of our Virginia house. Realize this is moving from 2200 sq ft place with 3 floors to about 1200 sq ft on one level.
This picture shows part of the disaster. The place is piled high with boxes everywhere, and we walk down paths carved between the boxes. We have 1 month unill the baby is due.
Maybe more on this later, if I have time.
Say Good-bye (to) Virginia
Wednesday we pulled out of South Riding with the last of our belongings. It has been an crazy few weeks since the eventual buyers found the house on Zillow and wrote me an email. From there we met, negotiated a deal for both parties, and then worked through a lawyer to close on the property. The actual closing is next week (hope I don't jinx it), but everything is on track so we have faith.
The twist, and there is always a twist, is that as the movers finished packing all our stuff, I asked about setting the delivery date and the lead mover said it was already set -- the next day at 8am. And he was talking in NY. We still had alot of moving and cleaning, and there was an ice storm scheduled for that night. We were able to get the move in pushed back to Thursday, but that was overfull day today. We had to clean up, drive back, and then organize our place today. It's late now and we did the best we could, so now we wait until tomorrow.

Fire Isiah
Like any caring Knicks fan, and there still may be a few who remember a franchise that displayed a sense of pride, I want to do my part to better the Knicks.
Yesterday The Post had a picture of a guy being kicked out for showing a "Fire Isiah" sign behind the bench. My plan: I figured the Daily News wanted to get their picture, so we get Becky a "Fire Isaih" sign, the Daily News gets us good Seats, pregnant Becky gets kicked out, and we end up on the cover of the News.
She didn't go for it, so we ended up with our FRONT ROW blue seats. The stunning part of the night was that the Knicks outplayed the Cavs and beat them bad, though LeBron had his 30+. Of course, this prevented the "Fire Isiah" chants, so we'll have to wait until next time for that too.

Christmas Shopping
After Pensacola Christmas, we went to the Union Square to shop at their Saturday Farmer's Market, but we found that for Christmas they blow it with hundreds of small shops. There are other markets like this at Grand Central, Bedford Park and Columbus Sq.
One of those NYC moments hit when I came across a Christmas tree lot and found that $50 gets you a Charlie Brown tree and then you're stuck dragging it through the subway.
We stopped at one of Becky's favorite shops -- Max Brenner: Chocolate by the Bald Man (or something like that). Lots of tasty chocolate treats in various types, white, milk, dark. Something for everyone, including the best hot milk chocolate. Though at $5 for a small 8 oz, you had to savior it.
After we had a good meal at Heartland Brewery, a NYC brew pub chain, that must have a marketing plan based on where I get thirsty. I think there are 5 in NY and all are places that we have done our tourist trips. It's always nice to find one of these places on a cold night, get some meat, and enjoy a couple of their special winter brews.

Trip to 1986

A long time ago, when we lived in VA and life was found in a townhouse, I managed to land good tickets to George Thorogood and Bryan Adams in Philadelphia. Now the best part of this was that I was able to keep it a secret from Becky until we hit the road. For some reason I figured I better tell her -- and it also allowed us to listen to their music on the way to Philadelphia.
For those of you that have been to wildwood with me, I'm sure we could say that there were many others at this show that we may have crossed path with on the boardwalk. One thing I have to mention: By the look of the crowd, it wasn't a good night to be a set sleeves from a t-shirt.
Show review: Surprising fun. The first time I saw Thorogood was in 1982 in Daytona Beach, so this was like a 25th Anniversary - and both he and I looked it.
We decided to combine it with a

Jack's Birthday
It was birthday #81 for Jack last weekend. We headed up from Virginia with a gift from our third floor Virginia warehouse -- the cushie black chair. I bought the chair 6 years ago, and probably sat it in 10 times.
We also had a chance to make big bubbles with Patrick. Since he's so small he almost fit inside a couple of them.

Mets, Nationals, and the French Toast Club
You might think the Mets 1-0 win thanks to a John Maine pitching gem was the key to the day, but no. We went to the Old Ebbets Grill in DC for brunch and I found a bruch heaven. They called it a French Toast Club: two thick slices of french toast with ham in between. Not done yet. Then cut into four pieces and bacon is wrapped around each quarter. I so want to go back.

Metters and Gracie
John and Gracie got married. Woooo! You're in the club!
We flew up to Boston on Friday morning and very quickly were reminded about the one thing we didn't miss -- it was so dame cold and windy. And let me add dark. I swear it was night at 4 pm. The whole gang was at the wedding the picture paints a pretty good story of the blurry conditions that we were experiencing. Outside of the wedding, we had a chance to see Becky's cousin Dan and Aunt Debbie over the weekend too.

National Zoo
Not much to say, but there are alot of pictures from the zoo where they opened the new Asia Trail, so we thought it would be a nice visit.
Later that night we went to the Caps - Rangers game, and the Caps won. Which is just not right.

Livin' On A Prayer
Philadelphia - "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" is how Bon Jovi started the show on this HOT Saturday night at Citizen's Bank Field, the home of the Phillies. We sat in leftfield, about 30 feet from the stage extension that looped into the audience. By being able to move into the audience, Jon Bon Jovi made himself more accessible to women throwing their under garments. The biggest casualty of the evening were the thousands of innocent t-shirts that lost their sleeves in the name of '80s style.
About the show: It rocked. Since Philly is Jon Bon Jovi's adopted city -- he owns the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena League, and has reportedly done alot of charity work in the city -- he was like a second homecoming. The South Jersey faithful showed their love for the band 2 1/2 hour show that covered all the hits and much more.
We didn't bring a camera to the show because we were 100% expecting rain. The weather was 90 degrees and 90% humidity -- the open stadium was the hottest club I was ever at. We were actually wishing it would rain about half way through.
I did include some pictures we took on Sunday, including our lunch at The City Tavern, which dates back to the days of Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin. Even then it was still so hot and muggy that we decided it would be more comfortable sitting in a traffic jam with air conditioning, rather than walking the streets. I have no idea how Ben Franklin did it.

Rich and Beth Visit
NoVA - Rich and Beth came to visit from Pensacola to Dave Matthews, and us, of course. However a last minute shift had Becky using Rich's ticket, and Rich and Tim staying home, eating pizza and watching civil war documentaries. It's what guys do in VA.
Other than that, the weekend was memorable for rain, and lots of it. We had about 4 days in a row where we had 1-2 inches of rain.
This hell never enden for Rich and Beth. A computer glitch by AirTran left all their Dulles flights grounded until late that night, so their 9 am flight did not leave until 8:30 pm.

Baby Panda and Washington Monument
We were lucky to snag tickets to see Tai Shan, the new baby panda at the National Zoo. The pictures show that he slept for our full 10 minute viewing time. However, it was still interesting just to see how small he is compared to his mother and father which were outside in the viewing area. Mom was enjoying a frozen snack while dad looked a little glum since he was isolated by himself.
Since we knew we would be in the city, we also made reservsations for tickets to go to the top of the Washington Monument. We went last in the day so the sun was seeting making it a nice time to take pictures, though it got chilly real fast once the sun went down. Click below to see more:

Shenandoah River State Park
You can't beat a scenic mountain road during foliage season, so Rebecca and I took a ride up the big hill for the scenic views. We also saw our first evidence of snow or the season because they had around 4 inches fall early in the week. Click below for the pictures:

The Little 1 Turns 1
It was The Baby's birthday so we followed the long caravan of worshippers and headed to the highlands of Bornt Hill. You can see that fun was had by all.

Becky's dad and brother drove up to visit us for a few days. We went into DC for a day and then to the giant Air Museum near us in VA. Check out some photos:

President's Cup Practice Round
I had a chance to go to the Robert Trent Jones CC to catch the practice rounds on Wednesday morning. The best part is that they allow cameras on the course during proctice so I busted out my new lens and took some shots.
At first I got to see 3 of the International foursomes tee off, and then I wandered on the course and found Tiger Woods playing with Fred Couples, later Jack Nicklaus joined them -- can you hear the sound of me dropping name.
I think I have at least one picture of every golfer here someplace enjoy.
